Contractor Management

Industry: Mining & resources

Client: ASX listed global mining company

Location:  Papua New Guinea

Assignment:

Our client engaged us on a strategically important project in Papua New Guinea. The project involved two main components including the construction and commissioning of a cyclone tower for recovering cyanide-soluble gold from flotation tails, and the installation and commissioning of a Nutec Bickley kiln.

 

Principal Representation

  • Managed and advised on the complex commercial and contract relationships among the client and multiple stakeholder partners involved in the project.

Successful Project Delivery

  • Successfully delivered the project, increasing the total plant recovery by more than 4% and an additional ~30,000 ounces of gold from the leaching of flotation tails, which were previously considered a waste stream.
DHN & Co's client Hydrostar project in Australia

Contractor Management

Industry: Renewable Energy

Client: Hydrostar Inc.

Location:  Canada / Australia

Assignment: An advanced energy storage facility was being built in South Australia, featuring an Australian-first 5MW energy storage technology. Our client was one of multiple stakeholders, including the South Australian Government’s Renewable Technology Fund (RTF), and the Australian Federal Government’s Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). DHN & Co was contracted to manage the project and support Toronto-based Hydrostar through the initiative.

Principal Representation

  • Managed contracting and commercial interactions with external consultants, contractors, suppliers, and engineering consultants for both surface and subsurface prefeasibility and final detailed design.
  • Supported the establishment of Hydrostor Australia Pty Ltd, to providing advice on contracting models and commercial engagements.
  • Developed and managed the Expression of Interest (EOI) and Request for Proposal (RFP) processes for the construction of the Angas A-CAES Project.
  • Coordinated with Hydrostor’s in-house technical team for scope development and design of proprietary technology build methodologies.

Dispute Resolution

Industry: Mining & Resources

Client: ASX listed global mining company

Location: Asia Pacific 

Assignment: Representation of our client during a formal dispute resolution involving the principal contractor responsible for a major capital project. The project was significantly behind schedule and budget at the time of engagement, and the principal contractor was pursuing multiple claims, including extensions of time and variations to scope.

 

Business Advisory

  • Addressed all claims and disputes effectively.
  • Provided guidance and advice on a recovery schedule to realign both the client and the principal contractor to ensure the project’s completion.

Resolution without impact on project progress

  • All claims and disputes were successfully resolved without halting works or progress on the project.
  • The intervention facilitated the development of a recovery schedule, which helped realign the project and contributed to its successful completion.
